Galatians 5:16-17

So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. Galatians 5:16-17

forgotten foundation

These lyrics really jumped out this morning:

When the walls close in around me
Let Your glory light the darkness of my night

When the suffering's all that I see
May I walk with You by faith and not by sight

Amidst a season of the Lord cautioning me from a 'me-and-my-works' based understanding of serving Him, working me down instead of up, simple instead of complex:

I'm realizing a wrong way in which I approach God in struggle.
Somewhere along the way I've began to develop this horrible misunderstanding that says since I am growing and now know more about walking with the Lord, I've lost my rookie excuse and can't use the "I have no idea what's going on God, but I need you." I still miss the Truth that says I don't have to become a good Christian, I don't have to diagnose all of my spiritual problems and prescribe remedies, I can forever cry, "Lord I'm sinking, I have no idea what's going on, save me! Let your Glory light the darkness of my night!"

Praise Him for being the most incredible teacher ever; revealing to us where we're missing it, and blessing childlike desperation!
I love you FATHER!

  1. So true. Let's never lose that child-like heart. I was reading through Narnia and was reminded of needing to simply trust God. I do need more of that desperation and dependence on him!

  2. dude SO GOOD i freakin love you billy. its all about staying humble before our Lord at all times, no matter how "mature" we get in our faith. He is always there for us to cry out to Him when we have no idea what's going on. It glorifies Him when we humble ourselves and seek Him for refuge. what an awesome God we serve!!!

  3. ahh, yes, billy! you are just amazing. i just want to keep encouraging you because i love you heart so much, even though i guess i don't know you very well, haha. this is so true. i've been stuck in these mindsets a little bit lately, and i've found a lot of encouragement in this reality carp series. it's called "how to be a good christian and other religious nonsense." if you have time, i'd love for you to check it out. you can find it on the reality carp podcast. the first one is called "the gospel por vida". it's a study through galatians. no pressure, just thought i'd throw that out there :)

  4. Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus (Phil 3:12-14) the barometer of "spiritual maturity" is the consistency with which we are pressing on. forget the premise of the past and let go of the expectations of the future and keep your eyes on Jesus. in that, we will never have a complete understanding of what He is doing but we press on anyways. p.s. you're awesome! i'm praying for you!

  5. Frick Ya!!! Billy this is so sick!! Nick Chiarazzi just posted a status on facebook that we were talking about that said, "the most beautiful prayer I've ever heard was, 'help, Lord' " I thought that was so rad. Somewhere along the way we got tossed this idea that He is more impressed with us being "theological" than intimately bonded and founded in Him as we walk through every day life. Praying for you big man!! Love you dude
