Galatians 5:16-17

So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. Galatians 5:16-17

What would it look like if someone followed Christ with the drive, determination, and tenacity that Kobe practices and plays basketball with, lil wayne raps with, or Steve Jobbs runs apple with?

  1. duudeee first of all supperrr sick background. i say it would look like Paul... billy graham, rick warren, but i also think there are a ton of Christians who are ON FIRE their entire lives, and do not recieve any credit whatsoever. This type of person has a ginormous impact for the kingdom but nobody can tie the links back to them. They are humbly waiting for their reward in heaven

  2. Amen Zach. I feel the same, Billy. I think humility plays a huge role. I think it's also important to realize that "no one is righteous, not even one". We see tons of people who are on fire/seem like they are always striving to do purely the Lord's work but what lies underneath all of that is the humility and transparency of those people. Francis Chan, in my opinion, is a great example of a man that has been blowing up on the scene of radical Christian leaders yet he is always the first to admit how imperfect he is and how much he needs Christ more and more with every step he takes.

  3. Wait, you mean actually PRACTICING our faith? Keeping it at the forefront of our thinking? Allowing it to define who we are, how we spend our time, how we're perceived, etc.? Radical. And convicting.

  4. I think that person would bear some tasty fruit.

  5. haha, agreed Ryan.

Thats a great point on humility, Brandon and Zach. Thanks.
I think I sometimes make the mistake of thinking that if the Kingdom of God is going to grow radically, it's going to be in the public eye, and visible. The same way Apple, the Lakers, and hip hop are so excelled because of the people behind them, I think the Kingdom of God would be improved if we gave God more effort and time so he could shape and use us better.

I'm not sure what I think about the thought of some of the most devoted followers of Christ not making much of an outwardly visible 'splash' by the way they live their lives. Is it possible to pursue and serve God completely unreservedly and so passionately, but not have our lives make people wonder at what's causing it?

Francis Chan is the exact type of person that comes to mind..."If our lives make sense to unbelievers - somethings wrong."

    Nick, I'm not too sure,
I guess I'm thinking about someone who wouldn't ever miss waking up at 6am to spend time with God before work, would prepare crazily well for any sort of ministry task, would just be soo devoted and so disciplined in their relationship with much more fruit would their lives bear.

I know it would benefit me to wake up at 6 am everyday and spend time with God before I start my day, and I know God is absolutely worth it...but why don't I and how do I get there?

  6. Very intriguing post and comments! We train so hard for our sports, display so much passion for our talents, educate ourselves for our does our commitment to God compare??

  7. Man that would be Jesus! but ya that would be crazy if you lived out a faith in the same way that those men do their craft.

  8. looks like Francis Chan. and Mike Erre. and Paul. and my mom and my oldest sister. we have examples all around us. they don't need to all be preachers.

  9. a radical movement that would change the world
